Emerging in the City of Angels
I have been shooting portraits for a project on emerging artistic talent here in L.A. The artists span several different media – dancers, musicians, actors, designers, photographers and more – and are all involved in “the struggle”. I love shooting in general, but working with fellow artists is really the most gratifying for me. It is really funny how we may represent genres of art so incredibly different, but connect so completely on our shared frustrations!
Like any picture, these represent a time and place, hopefully a time and place that these artists will be able to look back on and say “Oh, what trials and tribulations I went through to get where I am now!” I like to say that success is a process and that each of these artists that I shoot is on a different level of that process, scratching and clawing to get to the next level.
I’ve been shooting this project since this winter and hope to have it in presentable form by the spring of ’12.
This weekend I had the good pleasure of shooting my friend Basil, a sickly talented photographer. He was such a good sport and we got some really fun images. Then had some great food and bevvies at a fantastic WeHo spot called Eveleigh. Check it out if you haven’t gone yet!
An appetizer from our shoot:

Nice shot, I like the intensity.
Thanks Rifqi! You have some great work on your site as well.
